The sample shall be taken from a fixed representative point to a clean vessel and preferably during normal operation of the installation. It is important to describe the place of collection, the date and the working conditions, because without this context the number is difficult to reliably assess.
The scope depends on the system. We typically test pH, alkalinity, hardness, conductivity, chlorides, TDS and iron. For cooling and RO systems, we add indicators related to deposit, corrosion and microbiological risk.
A single result shows the condition at a given moment and is usually sufficient for a preliminary diagnosis. However, the evaluation of the effectiveness of the chemical program requires a series of measurements, because it is a trend, not a single reading.
The results are discussed in the context of the operation of the installation and we indicate the next step: correction of dosing, cleaning, passiveness, technical audit or regular monitoring. We don't leave a client with a table of numbers.
